About this event:

We are more than the circumstances of our lives, and what we do matters. In We Are the Leaders We Have Been Looking For, one of the nation’s preeminent scholars and a New York Times bestselling author, Eddie S. Glaude Jr., Ph.D., makes the case that the hard work of becoming a better person should be a critical feature of Black politics. Through virtuoso interpretations of Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and Ella Baker, Dr. Glaude shows how ordinary people have the capacity to be the heroes that our democracy so desperately requires, rather than outsourcing their needs to leaders who purportedly represent them.

About Eddie S. Glaude Jr., Ph.D.:

Dr. Glaude is the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor at Princeton University, and the former president of the American Academy of Religion, the largest professional organization of scholars of religion in the world. FAN hosted Dr. Glaude in 2020 for his most recent bestseller, Begin Again: James Baldwin’s America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own; that event featured a conversation with fellow Morehouse alum Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III of Chicago.

About Marcus Campbell, Ed.D.:

Marcus Campbell, Ed.D. is the Superintendent of Evanston Township High School District 202. Dr. Campbell has served as FAN's Board Chair since September 2023, and has interviewed many prominent authors and researchers for FAN, including Ta-Nehisi Coates, Ibram X. Kendi, David Blight, Clint Smith, Angie Thomas, Robin DiAngelo, Brian Lowery, Nicholas Pearce, and Dax-Devlon Ross.
